It's nice to see such refreshing, honest transparency from Google on this issue. It seems a greagt shame that Street View cars will no longer collect WiFi network information. Surely this functionality can be re-enabled once the defect in the software has been corrected? Afterall, this is useful data which very usefully enables people to locate themselves without GPS.
Google!Thank you for your public transparency. Your company has massively contributed to my internet experience!earlwallace
"In addition, given the concerns raised, we have decided that it’s best to stop our Street View cars collecting WiFi network data entirely."Does this mean an end to MAC based geolocation? I've been impressed with the accuracy and speed of MAC based geolocation and realize the limitations/cost of GPS. Perhaps ending MAC based geolocation is overkill?
Can we also get full disclosure on what information is collected by Google HomeView?
since until now GOogle got the infos from Skyhook and they will not stop their work, since they make money with italso do they not give away any information about the process of their datacollection ;)but their are lots of deliverycars equipped with their systems (you get money if you install them)
